Tell us about yourself.
I graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S. in Business Management & Leadership in 2011. My insurance career began in June 2013 when I started working for the Consumer Assistance Division (“CAD”) of the Kansas Department of Insurance. I became supervisor of the CAD Health and Life Unit in May 2024. My husband and I are proud cat parents to Mitch, River, Theo, Frankie, and Penelope. I grew up on the Kansas side of the Kansas City metro area, and have lived in Topeka, Kansas since June 2012.
Tell us about your involvement with IRES.
I initially became a member of IRES in June of 2021 because I had heard wonderful things about the society from my coworkers, and after researching the Accredited Insurance Examiner (“AIE”) designation. So far, I have attended the Career Development Seminar (“CDS”) in 2022 and 2024. I currently serve on the CDS committee and am excited to become more involved with IRES in the future.
Tell us why you find involvement with IRES to be valuable.
The networking and education opportunities offered by IRES are exemplary. Through IRES I have been able to connect with individuals involved in all aspects of the insurance regulation industry. In addition, the insurance regulatory knowledge obtained through education opportunities offered by IRES has been integral to both training new staff and when assisting Kansas consumers with their insurance needs.
When you are not working, what are your passions/hobbies?
If not working, you’ll probably find me curled up reading with a cat, at CrossFit, or at roller derby practice. I am currently in my 13th season playing and am the Executive Director of our local roller derby team, the Capital City Crushers. I am also a member of Team Kansas Roller Derby. I have loved Taylor Swift since before she was mainstream and the highlight of my year last year was attending the Eras Tour in Indy. I’m also a huge book nerd and can debate Westeros politics with the best of them.
