AIE® & CIE®

The Accredited Insurance Examiner (AIE®) and Certified Insurance Examiner (CIE®) designations are awarded to IRES members who meet the established minimum education, employment, and/or membership requirements.

The Accredited Insurance Examiner (AIE®) and Certified Insurance Examiner (CIE®) designations are awarded to IRES members who meet the established minimum education, employment, and/or membership requirements.

An insurance professional who has been awarded an AIE® has been extensively trained in one of three primary fields of insurance (Property-Casualty; Life – Annuities; or Health).

Insurance professionals who have been awarded a CIE® have met the requirements for earning an AIE® in one field and cross-trained in another.

IRES members who have been awarded the AIE® or CIE® designation must take part in the Society’s program of continuing education, known as the National IRES Continuing Education (NICE) Program. The NICE Program allows individuals who have earned either of the two designations to demonstrate their commitment to continued professional development through continuing education and training.

Certified Insurance Examiner (CIE®)

A CIE® is awarded to insurance professionals who have meet the membership and/or employment requirements, have been extensively trained in one of three primary fields of insurance and in another field.

In order to earn a CIE®, applicants must:

  • Have previously earned (or meet the requirements to earn) an AIE® under one of the three education paths, Property-Casualty, Life-Annuities, or Health;

  • Successfully complete the required course work following the same path taken to earn the AIE®;

  • Be an IRES member in good standing, and;

  • Meet the applicable employment, experience, and/or membership requirements.

General Members:

  • CIE® applicants must have three years of full-time regulatory work experience.

  • CIE® applicants spend 75% or more of his/her time working for an insurance regulatory agency (whether as an employee or a contractor).

Sustaining Members:

  • Earn the Market Conduct Management (MCM®) designation.

  • Be an Individual Sustaining Member for at least three years or be employed by a firm that has been a Firm Sustaining Member for at least three years.
