Important CE Deadlines

It’s that time of year again, and the deadlines for the National IRES Continuing Education (“NICE”) Program are fast approaching.

The NICE Program mandates that all members holding an AIE®, CIE®, or CICSR® must earn and report a minimum of 15 hours of qualifying continuing education (“CE”) credit each year. All items submitted for credit must be completed within the current compliance period, which runs from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2025. All credits must be submitted to the IRES office by no later than October 1, 2025.

If you are a few CE credits short this compliance period, you can ‘reachback’ and use up to three excess hours from last year. To qualify, the credits must be excess (i.e., not previously used to satisfy your CE requirement), and you may ‘reachback’ only one year. IRES does not automatically apply excess hours from the prior year to the current compliance period. If you need to 'reachback' for credits, you must report the ‘reach back’ CE credits for this reporting period.

If extenuating circumstances prevent you from completing your CE requirement this year, you can request a one-year extension. Extensions are not automatic and must be requested before September 1, 2025. To request an extension, visit the IRES website, log into your account, and complete the Extension Request Form.

Finally, help make sure IRES can process your CE credits quickly by following these simple tips:

  • Don’t procrastinate; report your CE credit as you earn it.

  • Attach proof of attendance or completion when you submit the credit.

  • Enter the name of the event exactly as it appears on the proof of completion.

  • The Entry Date on the submission form should indicate the date when the educational event was completed and the credit was earned.

  • Double-check to ensure you’re not reporting duplicate credit.

  • The number of credits listed on the submission form should match the number of credits stated on the certificate of attendance.

  • The credit expiration date should be August 31 of the compliance period for which the submission is made. In other words, credits for the current compliance year should expire on August 31, 2025.
