There are many ways to get involved with the Society on both a national and state level through the various committees of IRES and via individual State Chapters. Volunteers are the heart of the Society. Their efforts provide the foundation for the Society's success. Any member, including Sustaining Members, of the Society can serve on a Committee or Subcommittee; however, only voting members are able to vote on Committee decisions.
State Level
The opportunities for involvement on a local level vary with each State Chapter. You should contact the State Chair of your local State Chapter for information on how to get involved at the State Chapter level.
National Level
On the National level there are two ways to get involved, join a committee and/or join the IRES Research Pool.
Committees
There six standing Committees and several subcommittees with which you can become involved. The Committees are:
The duties of each Committee are specified in the bylaws, however, the links above provide an overview of each Committee and the work it does.
Generally speaking the time commitment for each Committee involves at least a monthly teleconference lasting 1 to 1 ½ hours each. There will also be some additional work beyond the monthly teleconferences, however, this will vary and is dependent on what the Committee or Subcommittee is working on.

When assistance may be needed, key IRES members will be able to offer to the various NAIC groups the assistance of the IRES Research Pool. Upon the NAIC's solicitation of input from a NAIC Committee, Task Force, Working Group, and/or Subgroup, a key IRES member would provide the appropriate NAIC's working group chair with a list of subject matter experts who may be able to assist with the issue at hand. Key IRES members will be those members who are in a position to offer the assistance of the IRES Research Pool, because they regularly attend the NAIC meetings and/or serve on the various NAIC Committees, Task Forces, Working Groups, and/or Subgroups that may need to utilize the Pool. The chair of the working group may then contact IRES Research Pool volunteers to help research or draft preliminary documents. While attendance at NAIC Quarterly meetings will NOT be necessary; the work may require that specific deadlines be met depending on the circumstances related to the work at hand.
If you are interested in helping with this project by volunteering to be a part of the IRES Research Pool, please complete and submit the IRES Research Pool Form.
